Down On The Farm 6/11/10

The Mets farm teams had a rough go of it tonight. None of them managed to pick up a win and all of the losses were by wide margins.

Up in Buffalo, the Bisons got trounced by the Durham Bulls 8-3. Misch didn't fare so well, giving up seven hits, three walks, and four runs in five innings. However, Jose De La Torre let the game get completely out of hand as he relieved Misch to start the sixth and promptly allowed seven baserunners and four earned runs over the next inning and a third. The Bisons did see some good news with Josh Thole and Fernando Martinez returning to the lineup. Thole went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Martinez went 1 for 4 with a double and a run scored.

Binghamton didn't do all that much better. The B-Mets were downed by the Trenton Thunder by a score of 6-2. Eric Niesen pitched horribly, giving up seven baserunners and three earned in an inning and a third. The bullpen managed to keep them in it the rest of the way, though, until Manuel Alvarez let up three in the bottom of the eigth. Major item of note: Reese Havens, tearing it up this year, left the game after the second inning. As of now, there's no news on why. Hopefully this is not an injury. Update to come as soon we get more info.

St. Lucie was off today for their All-Star break.

As for those pesky Sand Gnats, well, they weren't very pesky tonight. Instead, they where swatted away. The only hitter who did anything worth mentioning was Cesar Puello, who went 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI. On the pitching side, everyone sucked except for Taylor Whitenton, who's done some impressive stuff this year. He went the last four innings, gave up four hits, three walks, two earned runs and struck out six. Not his most impressive appearance to date but with the exception of the walks, was pretty solid. Look for more info on Whitenton in the days to come.
