Last night we saw the Mets' farm clubs finally see some success across the board. All three teams that played last night picked up the win. The highlights:
As you saw in our previous post, F-Mart launched a monster, walk-off grand slam to win it for the Bisons 7-6. It's really nice to see F-Mart come back from his injury so strong. I'm wondering if, with the Mets outfield so full, F-Mart may be dangled in hopes of getting an ace. Having watched him develop from the very minute he signed his contract, it'd be nice to see him make it with this team. But that's just the nature of baseball. F-Mart isn't the only Bison on a tear since returning from injury. In his third game back, Josh Thole went 3-3 with two doubles and a home run. That's the way, uh-huh uh-huh, I like it.
Binghamton was off for the night, which was probably a good thing considering the awful beatings they'd taken the two previous days. They'll return to action tonight in Richmond with the steadily improving Michael Antonini taking the hill. In his last four starts (24.2 innings), Antonini has a 2.55 ERA, 23 strikeouts and only two walks.
In their first game back from the All-Star break, St. Lucie picked up the win, 6-5, in large part due to their relentless offense. Every hitter in the starting lineup got at least one hit. Stefan Welch continued his strong '10 campaign with a 2-3 day, including two runs, a double an RBI. Sean Ratliff added two hits, a double and an RBI of his own. And, of course, a St. Lucie game wouldn't be complete without Josh Satin going 1-4 with 3 RBI. Satin's been phenomenal, but I refuse to get overly excited about a 25 year old in A ball.
Down in Savannah, the Sand Gnats dished out a Brooklyn style beat down to the Rome Braves, 10-4. The game saw six different Sand Gnats put up multi-hit efforts, the most notable of which came from Jefry Marte. He went 3-4 on the day with three runs scored, two doubles and an RBI. Also, the Sand Gnats saw home runs from Michael Fisher and Juan Lagares, as well as a two hit, three RBI effort from Kai Gronauer. But what would Savannah be without that pitching? Brandon Moore continued his stellar season with six innings, four hits, a walk, and three strikeouts. He did let up three runs on the day, but only one was earned. Of the 12 Savannah pitchers with 20 or more innings under their belt, only three have ERAs over 3.00 and only one has an ERA over 4.00. Simply outstanding.
