Down On The Farm - 6/19/10

It was a fairly rough for the Mini-Mets as they dropped three of the four games (I will not be covering Brooklyn) they played last night. A quick rundown:

In Buffalo, the Bisons dropped a tough one to the Indians, 9-3 after taking a 3-2 lead into the top of the ninth. Mike Cervenak was the only real standout on the offensive side, going 2-4 with two doubles and a run scored. On the pitching side, Dillon Gee had an outstanding start. He went six, five hits, no walks, an earned run and struck out seven. That was before the Bisons' bullpen blew it.

Over in Binghamton, the B-Mets pulled off an extra innings victory in a slugfest with the Thunder, winning 10-9 in ten innings. Eric Campbell was the standout in this one, going 4-5 with two home runs, a double, four RBI and three runs scored. He's now batting .320 with five homers, 22 RBI and a .918 OPS in 100 at bats since being promoted to Binghamton. Josh Satin and D.J. Wabick added three hits and two doubles each. Nick Evans and Luis Hernandez added two hits each, with Hernandez racking up three RBI, including the game winner on a walk off Sac Fly.

All the way down in Palm Beach, the Mets dropped another one to the Cardinals, 6-2. the only real bright spot in this one was Jordany Valdespin, who continued to impress the baseball world by going 2-5 with two RBI. Pitching was pretty bad for the Mets. Not much else to say.

In Savannah, the Gnats failed for the second night in a row to clinch the first half title. They lost to Augusta, 5-4 in ten innings, a game they lead up until the eighth inning. They're now tied with Augusta for first with just one game remaining in the series and first half. Now that's what I call a rubber match. Brandon Moore was brilliant in his start for the Gnats, bringing a no hitter into the eighth. He made it two outs in the eighth before giving up three runs to tie. He finished by going 7.2 and allowing four hits (all in that eighth inning), two hits, striking out seven and giving up four earned. Tough luck Moore. Erik Turgeon then allowing a walk off single in the bottom of the tenth to finish it. Offensively, the Gnats saw another great performance by Pedro Zapata, who went 3-4 and also saw Michael Fisher hit a two run shot on the day.
