There's a lot being said today about David Wright's hot streak and the resurgent Jose Reyes. I, for one, won't deny that those guys deserve a tremendous amount of the credit. But let's not forget that Ike Davis is on a pretty nice hot streak himself.
Since hitting the walk off home run against the Padres on June 8, Ike Davis has hit .303 in eight games, with two doubles, five runs scored, a home run, and seven RBIs. In the Cleveland series that just wrapped, Ike went 6-14 (two hits in each game), hit the aforementioned two doubles and one home run, scored three runs, and drove in five RBI. That raised his average from .253 coming into the series, to now .266 exiting it.
What most people won't point out, either, is that Ike has been solid with the glove, too. Yes, he has made four errors this season. I understand that's not great. Then again, Pujols and Gonzalez both have 3, so how bad could it be? Even if you figure Ike started roughly ten less games, he'd still translate to only five. I can't help watching him and thinking that he's gonna be pretty good with that glove someday soon. He has great hands and is quick to react.
