For a great profile on Dickey and how he reinvented himself click here, and enjoy a great article by Anthony Castrovince for mlb.com
This is truly a great read, as it serves as a reminder that if you want something bad enough, you have to go do whatever it takes to get it. The most interesting thing in the piece, to me, is that Dickey is missing the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. You'd figure that would effect you in some adverse way, and most thought it would, but according to Dickey, it's helped.
By the way, no knock on Castrovince, but what he didn't point out in the article is that Dickey is trying to become the first Mets pitcher since 1999 to start off 5-0 in his inaugural season with the team. In '99 the Mets saw two pitchers accomplish that feat. Kenny Rogers did it after being acquired in a mid-season trade. Perhaps more impressively, Pat Mahomes did it as a reliever, where he was a perfect 8-0 for the year. Oh and, Kenny, you still walked in the winning run, buddy. Don't think we'd forget that.
UPDATE: In my almost three hours of researching this statistic, it appears as if I overlooked Duaner Sanchez. In 2006, his first season with the Mets, Sanchez started 5-0. My sincerest apologies to our readers for leading you astray.
