....score first and score late. That's one of the biggest differences I've noticed between this team and the teams of the past three seasons. Not only are they getting on the board first, as they've frequently been known to do, but they're also scoring late, too. That's something that definitely bewildered the Mets from 2007-2009. Think about it, how many times can you remember the Mets picking up a run or two in the first couple of innings and then going silent the rest of the night? I know I've got a few patches of gray as a result. That hasn't been the case during this surge, though.
In the Mets current seven game winning streak, they have scored first in all seven games. More importantly, in six out of seven of those games (the only one being Niese's one hitter) the Mets would add runs onto their lead in the sixth inning or later. As Jerry likes to say, them gangsta's are going for the throat. But that killer instinct is the key to a winning club. When the opposition is trying to mount a comeback late in the game, but keep looking up to see you score more runs, that's demoralizing. But it's also an absolute pleasure to watch if you are a Mets fan.
