In this upcoming Wednesday's game at home against the Detroit Tigers, Jerry Seinfeld will apparently be on the mic and in the booth with Keith and Gary. Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com brings us the story, which you can check out by clicking here
I am not one of those people who thinks this is a good idea. This is the Chicago Cubs' shtick, not ours. When will the Mets ever learn that they don't need to do silly PR stunts like this? Winning like they are now is enough to get us watching. I like Seinfeld, but also wonder sometimes why the Mets wait on him hand and foot. Oh yea, that's right, because he spends a fortune on tickets. I know, I know, it's good business sense. But it's also ridiculous to put an already rich and famous person on a pedestal when this fanbase was built on the backs of blue collar people. It's a tricky balance I suppose.
I'm also starting to lose some of my vigor for Keith. First, he brings his contract negotiations on-air. Not something that needed to be done. Then, when he does sign a new deal, he only works like half of the games. To cap it all off, he falls asleep during an extra inning game and has to be woken up by a producer. As if that wasn't embarrassing enough, he then fell asleep at the beginning of a game and Gary had to cover him for the first inning. Get yourself together, Mex. Ron's much more insightful than you are. Try to be more like him. Maybe I'm being too hard on Keith. What do you think?
