I know this is not exactly Mets related news, but I found it pretty interesting anyway. Check it out:
Jim Joyce, the umpire whose missed call deprived Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga of a perfect game on June 2, is baseball's best umpire nonetheless, according to an exclusive ESPN The Magazine Baseball Confidential poll of 100 major league
players. -Buster Olney, ESPN.com
This is nice to see, as Joyce handled the whole Galarraga situation with nothing but class. The day after the infamous perfect game that wasn't, Joyce was slated for home plate duties and the Tigers sent Galarraga out to hand Joyce the lineup card. Joyce greeted him with eyes full of tears, sincere apologies and a pat on the shoulder. This sort of humanity is what I think is sometimes lacking from sports today and the world in general. It's nice to see that the players hold Joyce in such high regard. My hat goes off to you, Jim. Congratulations on the accolades.
