During a Q&A with reporters earlier today, Jerry Manuel pointed out that Maine felt "normal soreness" after yesterday's bullpen and is tentatively scheduled to start against the Trenton Thunder on Sunday as part of a brief, two start rehab assignment. Personally, I'm holding out hope Maine can regain some of his old form. The Mets are simply too lefty heavy in the rotation right now. No matter how they form their rotation opposing teams would face a minimum of two lefty starters in a series. That's not good if the opposing team is righty heavy (cough cough Marlins cough cough). Also, putting Maine in the pen fresh off a DL stint is not good. If he couldn't get warmed up for his last start, how is he gonna get warm in just a few pitches? Not to mention he's not throwing hard or throwing strikes consistently and that doesn't bode well for a bullpen stint.
