For the second straight night our beloved minor league teams had some trouble coming up with wins. They did manage one win at least, unlike two nights ago. The rundown:
Up in Buffalo, the Bisons dropped another one, this time to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs by a final score of 6-3. For the second night in a row the Bisons saw a poor performance from their starter. This time the culprit was Bobby Livingston, who gave up 12 baserunners and six earned runs in five innings. Just like the great Northern Lights, there were some colorful, bright spots in an otherwise dark night. Fernando Martinez continued his comeback by going 2 for 4 with a homerun. Mike Jacobs also added a homerun of his own, his second in as many nights. Perhaps the brightest spot was Bobby Parnell who again went two innings. This time around he gave up only two baserunners while striking out one. Don't be surprised if you see Parnell make his return to the Mets soon.
Down in Binghamton, things were much more abysmal. The B-Mets lost 6-0, making it back-to-back big losses. Last night was even worse than the previous, as they were shutout and managed only two hits. Thoroughly unimpressive night for our AA squad.
The St. Lucie Mets were off again due to the actual All-Star game. But that didn't stop Josh Satin from impressing. In the top of the eighth, with the South Stars down by two, the Mets' Josh Satin stepped to the plate with a runner on first, two outs and hopes of a win fading. But that doesn't stop Josh Satin. Nothing does. He proceeded to be the hero and hit a two run shot to tie it up. I'm fairly certain he was caught shouting to the opposing pitcher, "Who's your daddy and what does he do?" as he rounded third. Just kidding. Being the man of steel that he is, Satin didn't stop there. In the top of the tenth, Satin again came to bat. This time, with no outs and a runner on second, Satin stroked a single into right field to drive in the winning run and seal the victory for the South Stars, 5-4.
The lone win from the farm tonight came from those pesky Sand Gnats, who were buzzing in the Grasshoppers' face all night. The Gnats came out swinging from the very first inning and didn't stop until they taught those young Grasshoppers a lesson with an 11-2 pounding. The Gnats saw homers from Wilmer Flores and Rafael Fernandez, as well as a three RBI game from Alonzo Harris and another two RBI from Jefry Marte. On the pitching side, Armando Rodriguez set the tone with six innings of two run ball, giving up only 5 hits and striking out three. Darin Gorski picked up his third save of the season by going three very impressive innings and allowing only one hit while striking out two.
