The Battle Over "Wounded Knees"

Carlos Beltran's injury and recovery have been widely discussed over many media channels so far this year. Yesterday on 660 WFAN, Joe and Evan touched upon a few sentiments that have bothered me while I've been following Beltran's progress. Joe was outspoken in saying that Beltran is a prima donna and will nurse this injury in the hope that he can be 100% for his contract year next season. Unfortunately there are many people that seem to share those same thoughts. How quickly everyone forgets about the effort he brings when he's in the lineup. This guy lays it all on the line in the outfield and on the base paths. It stands to reason why he would want to "baby" his surgically repaired knee...His mobility is a major factor to his value on this and any team. If and when he comes back this year I want to be able to see a healthy Beltran in the lineup and out in the field. When healthy he changes the way another team has to approach the Mets lineup, unless your name is Wainwright.

By the way...

Yesterday Carlos went 3 for 5 with a homer and a walk while playing 3 innings in CF during an intrasquad game. Let's wait to see how he feels and where he plays in the next few days.
