...And He's Doing It Without The Mouthguard


Yesterday Mike Pelfrey went 9 innings giving up just one run on 5 hits. What's even more impressive for Pelf is that he struck out 6 and walked no one. During the course of the game he kept a steady pace and varied the speed of his fastball as the game went on which made it appear that he had more life on his fastball in the later innings. While he didn't get the win last night it took him just 102 pitches the finish the ninth to stay undefeated in his last 5 starts with a 1.33 ERA during that span. Aside from Ubaldo Jimenez I don't think there is a better pitcher in the NL right now. In conclusion I really do believe that someone must have been spiking his mouth guard.
